I am a Law Enforcement wife.
Having a spouse or significant other that is in Law Enforcement can be challenging if you don’t know what you are up against. It is a challenging profession to be involved with, for more reasons than one would think.
Before I got pregnant with our daughter, I was working alongside my husband in a civilian capacity. Once I started working in the same department as my husband, I started to understand a little bit more of what my husband went through on a daily basis at work. Between the long hours, dealing with difficult situations, and then trying to balance home life on top of it all. That can become difficult to manage.
I have been closely involved with law enforcement for 6 years and have searched for resources that help me as a wife. While also providing support for my husband. Below are a few resources that I found to be the most helpful in my journey so far.
Rebecca from the ProudPoliceWife.com
Cyndi Doyle from Code4Couples.com
With having a background with Law Enforcement and a degree in psychology, I have become passionate about the mental health of law enforcement. As well as the mental health of those who stay home with their children. Both have long grueling hours but can be very rewarding.
Law Enforcement can take over your life, which is why we as spouses have to learn how to manage things on the back end and help our officers make the smoothest transitions possible day to day. Sometimes, that looks like just making sure they have a hot meal when they get home from their shift, and other times, it looks like providing a shoulder to lean on when things become heavy.
With helping our officers, who is their to help the officer’s spouse? The long shifts, being at home with the kids alone all day, the phone calls or texts saying “I’m not going to be off in time”. It all can become daunting and frustrating. Which is why having the right community that understands the struggles in such a benefit to have law enforcement. So let this blog be a resource for helping you get through those long days, and hopefully there is something you find relatable.
